Rebel Wilson weight loss secrets including five weekly workouts and NEVER using the word diet, reveals trainer

SHE may have shot to fame for her role as “Fat Amy” in the Pitch Perfect movies – but these days, Rebel Wilson is virtually unrecognisable.

Since the beginning of the year, the 40-year-old actress has reportedly lost a staggering three stone thanks to a few small lifestyle changes.

And fans are so amazed by her progress that they’ve even started calling her “Fit Amy” on Instagram.

But how has Rebel done it? Here Fabulous Digital explores how the star has continued shedding the pounds in lockdown.

1. Five weekly workouts

To kickstart her weight loss journey, Rebel has been working with Sydney-based personal trainer Jono Castono – who has her exercising at least five times a week.

Earlier this week, Jono appeared on Australian morning show Sunrise where he opened up about Rebel’s fitness regime.

During the segment, the trainer recommended doing 45 minutes of exercise five times a week in order to shed the pounds.

Stressing the importance of sticking to a “structure” in workouts, Jono revealed that he gets Rebel to doing weighted bicep curls and shoulder presses for an intense calorie burning session.

He said: “She wanted to make 2020 her year of health and as you can see from all her social media posts, she’s doing a great job.”

What’s more, Rebel has been giving fans an insight into her fitness regime – by sharing videos of her gym workouts.

2. Avoiding the word ‘diet’

During his appearance on the show, Jono said that he avoids using the word “diet” with Rebel – and prefers to his clients to see exercise as a lifestyle change.

He said: “I hate the word diet. I’m more about balance.

“You’ve got to enjoy the process. If you create too many restrictions then you’re not going to enjoy it.”

At the start of this year, Rebel informed her 8.8m Instagram followers about her plans to lose weight and said 2020 would be called “The Year of Health”.

The star says it’s still important to ‘treat yourself’ with indulgent food from time to time[/caption]

In January, she wrote: “So I put on the athleisure and went out for a walk, deliberately hydrating on the couch right now and trying to avoid the sugar and junk food, which is going to be hard after the holidays I’ve just had but I’m going to do it! Who’s with me in making some positive changes this year?”

But even though she’s been trying to shift some pounds, that doesn’t stop Rebel indulging her sweet tooth every couple of days.

Earlier this week, the star posted a clip of herself all glammed up and tucking into a decadent pudding.

She wrote: “Remember though girls, you still gotta treat yourself!

“I just do it with food now only once or twice a week…and substitute bubble baths on alternate nights.”

3. Squeezing in 10,000 steps a day

When she’s not working out with Jono five times a week, Rebel gets her heart rate up by going on long walks and hikes.

Jono said: ““I encourage all my clients to do an extra bit of cardio during the day to keep moving.

“A little tip is get a watch or use your phone to count steps and aim for 10,000 steps a day. If you’re on 9,000 steps at 10 p.m. you have to get it done.”

Yesterday, the star shared a photo from an early morning hike she’d done as she revealed she was less than half a stone away from her goal weight of 165lbs.

She wrote: “This week was super busy but I got up super early 3 times (6am) and went on a hike…even did a couple of 100m sprints to get the heart rate even higher.

“Although my ‘sprint’ is probably someone else’s ‘slow jog’ – but I felt proud of myself and now only 3kg’s away from my goal weight!”

4. Chewing food up to 30 times

As she lay out her weight loss goals for 2020, Rebel said she wanted to “avoid all the sugar and junk food” that was leftover from the holiday season.

According to People magazine, the star has been following the Mayr Method which is a weight loss plan which aims to improve gut health.

The publication reports that Rebel has achieved “amazing results” after she reportedly visited the detox and wellness center VivaMayr.

The “Mayr Cure” was developed by Austrian physician Dr. Franz Xaver over 100 years ago and reduces gluten and dairy consumption.

What’s more, the weight loss programme also bans snacking and encourages people to chew every mouthful 30 times to aid with digestion.

The menu at the detox centre reportedly is based around foods with high alkaline levels such as fresh fish, vegetables and yoghurt made from sheep’s milk, according to Jezebel.

A source said: “It’s an approach that eliminates food intolerances, reduces sugar, encourages eating whole foods slowly, boosts the immune system and reduces inflammation.”

5. Mixing up her cardio

Surprisingly, Rebel’s role in Cats is actually what kickstarted her weight loss journey.

Thanks to all the rigorous dance routines (not to mention the hot and heavy costumes), Rebel lost almost a stone in a matter of days.

“I lost eight pounds, shooting my number, in four days,” Rebel said. “One, because there’s a lot of physicalities… but also, they heated up the set very high, to almost 100 [degrees] Fahrenheit, so that we could never cool down.

But when she’s not dancing, Rebel is a fan of mixing up her cardio to keep it interesting – especially when she’s working out five times a week.

Earlier this summer, the actress shared a video of herself flipping a large tire as she joked that fellow Australian stars Liam and Chris Hemsworth should “look out”.

Rebel has been pictured in the boxing ring during her “Year of Health” – as the intensive form of exercise not only burns up to 600 calories in one session but also builds muscle mass.

She captioned the photos: “Fight club! With Jessie & @amycastano #legends.”
